Week 5 Videos and Homework Goals

 This week, I want you to concentrate on making your training goals.  You won't make the goals at first or even every day, but I want you to work on the repetitions in certain time frames.  So on most days, the time should decrease until you are ultimately meeting the goals. VIDEOS: Here are some things we practiced in our last lesson: Sits First Command w Audio Distraction Inside (we want to be able to do 3 sets of 4 in a row inside, well under 5 minutes, and eventually outside in that amount of time as well): Attention to Name (we want to be able to do this easily under 3 minutes inside with audio distractions, and then start working this outside, perhaps not on a walk at first, but easy outdoor areas): Circle Sit Stays Inside with Leash Dropped and Audio Distraction (we want to be able to do 4 in a row for 1 minute under 6 minutes inside, and then work to that same goal outside on walks): HOMEWORK: Now we are going to fit our training work into one hour a day.  Yo...

  NEW NOTES: NOTE 1:  TRY TO WORK WITHOUT OUTSIDE DISTRACTIONS (TRAINING ON WALKS) AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.  IF YOU CAN'T WORK WITH OUTSIDE DISTRACTIONS DUE TO WEATHER OR LIFE, THEN BE SURE TO WORK WITH DISTRACTIONS INSIDE.  YOU WANT IT TO CHALLENGE YOUR DOG BUT (IF POSSIBLE) NOT COMPLETELY OVERWHELM YOUR DOG.  WORKING OUTSIDE DECREASES ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL, SO BE SAFE AND PLAN ACCORDINGLY.   DOG BARKING AUDIO  KITCHEN NOISE AUDIO  DOOR KNOCKING AUDIO VEHICLE NOISES AUDIO DOOR OPENING AND CLOSING AUDIO NOTE 2:  WHEN WORKING INSIDE, PRACTICE THE EXERCISES WHERE THE LEASH IS DROPPED WITH OTHER DISTRACTIONS LIKE THE AUDIO FILES ABOVE, MOVING FURNITURE, MOVING THE VACUUM AROUND,  AND SO ON. Week 4 Heel and Auto Sit

  Equipment Needed: 6’ Leash, Training Collar (or a slip lead could replace the two).    NOTE 1: IF YOU USE THE SLIP LEAD, THE COLLAR CORRECTION IS NOT AS CLEAN OR PRECISE. IF YOU HAVE AN AMENABLE DOG, THIS PROBABLY WON’T BE A PROBLEM.     NOTE 2: YOU DON’T NEED TO PRACTICE EVERY TIME WHILE HEELING. YOU CAN DO THESE WHILE JUST WALKING WITH YOUR DOG AS WELL.     Explanation and Goal of Exercise: This exercise is the end goal for the molding and interim sit exercises you have been doing. You want to be able to stand up straight now for both the command and the correction (the correction is loose, tight, loose but quickly with the chain training collar, and just a tug with the slip leash) The goal for this week will be to do three sets of four in a row without needing the correction (which means it is very important to use the well-timed correction when it is needed).  You will want to do this (with the heeling) for a half an hour a day.   ...
